Actor Tom Chambers has spoken about his upcoming ‘ultimate’ headline show, tap-dancing and Casualty ahead of his appearances at the Theatre Royal in October.

Strictly Come Dancing winner Tom is to appear in Crazy For You alongside Caroline Flack in the romantic comedy musical.

The show is about the troubled love story of Bobby, son of a wealthy New York banking family and frustrated Broadway hoofer, and Polly, daughter of the proprietor of a failing theatre in Deadrock, Nevada.

Sent to close the theatre down, Bobby falls for Polly and, in the guise of a Hungarian impresario, decides to save the theatre by putting on a show.

Tom said: “This one, for me, is the ultimate one because the things that my character does to try and get the girl is so funny.

“The story stands out by itself, it feels like it doesn’t even need to be a musical, but it has all the best songs in it in my book.

“It’s going to be great and the musicians are live on stage at the same time as well so the audience get to see everything that’s going on too, there’s always something to look at.”

The show features tap-dancing which Tom said he has got to terms with through his time on Strictly Come Dancing.

He said: “It’s like computer code for your feet – you’ve got to get the basics right but then you can mix it up and do anything.

“If it hadn’t been for Strictly, you’d be talking to someone else because it was thanks to that which opened up the doors for musical theatre.

“I’d trained in it before but had never done things like ballroom and Latin dances; musical theatre was one tap, one ballet and one dance.”

Tom revealed that his role on medical drama series Casualty will have to be put on hold while rehearsals and the shows will take place.

He said: “I think my character Sam will have to temporarily go somewhere, maybe back to New York.

“When he does come back, Sam is incredibly hard-nosed at the moment, hopefully some of the old Sam will come back.

“He’s feeling the pressure of being medical director which is proving a very difficult job.”

The show runs from Tuesday October 3 until Saturday October 7 at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham with tickets starting from £16.
