Warsop man sentenced to 17 years for raping two women

Stuart Hayter, 29, has been found guilty of five counts of rape against the two women.

Hayter, of Clumber Street, had claimed that the sexual activity with both women had been consensual. However a jury found him unanimously guilty of all five counts.

He was handed 11 years for four counts of rape against one victim, and will also serve a further six years, to run consecutively, for the offence against a second woman.

He was told he will need to sign the Sex Offenders’ register for the rest of his life.

DC Helen Commins, who investigated the case, said: “The first victim had the courage to come forward and report what had happened to her.

“As part of my enquiries, I was then able to trace another victim who Hayter had raped several times and who was in extreme fear of what he was capable of.

” He thought he could do what he liked to women without their consent.

“By working closely with the second victim, she felt more confident that she could tell us about what he had done, and I am really pleased that both women have today seen justice and Hayter will be behind bars for a very long time.”
