An emotional Kevin Nolan has said winning promotion through the play-offs is the ‘best way’ to get promoted.

Speaking ahead of Notts’ final game of the regular season at home to Luton Town at Meadow Lane on Saturday (May 5), Nolan said he wants to use the game as a celebration of the 46 games Notts will have played in League Two.

Notts will play in the play-offs next week and their opponents will be confirmed when the regular season finishes.

Nolan was emotional when asked if he had thought about leading the Magpies out at Wembley.

He said: “I’m emotional because I didn’t think I’d be here.

“I didn’t think we’d be sitting here talking about promotion this season; I’ve been there, I’ve done it, I’ve experienced it, I’ve won it and I remember how much it meant to me when we did it.

“So to do it now would be mad.

“Going up through the play-offs is the best way to go up and what we’ve got to make sure we do is to leave it all out there.

“That’s what we will certainly be doing and what I’ll be asking my lads to do.”

Video: Midfielder Jorge Grant on his high targets being the key to his successful season

Midfielder Jorge Grant scooped the Golden Boot and Player’s Player of the Year award at the club’s end of season awards on Sunday (April 29).

He said the key to his success this season has being as ambitious as possible.

Grant said: “I’ve worked really hard and I’m very happy to get those accolades but it’s a team game and as long as we do the right things in the next game, we can set ourselves up for the play-offs.

“I think if you set your targets too low and you complete them then you have to keep setting them.

“If you set them at their highest, you will keep working and working to that point so the higher you set them, the harder you work.”
