Watch: Forest manager Aitor Karanka expects West Brom tails to be up after their opening day defeat

Watch: Forest manager Aitor Karanka on facing newly relegated West Brom

Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka thinks West Brom’s tails will be up after their defeat on the opening day of the season in their first Championship game in eight years.

Forest host West Brom in the first game of the season at the City Ground tonight (Tuesday August 7) which kicks off at 7.45pm.

West Brom were relegated from the Premier League in 20th place last season and lost their opening game of the Championship this season 2-1 at home to Bolton on Saturday (August 4).

The Reds travelled to Ashton Gate for their opening game of the Championship on Saturday and drew 1-1 with Bristol City.

But Forest manager Aitor Karanka has called today ‘the day everyone has been waiting for’.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, he said: “The game will be really difficult because their players last year were Premier League players.

“Players like Jake Livermore were in the national side one year ago so it’s going to be difficult.

“And following their defeat on Saturday, they will be more than up for it but it’s about us.

“It’s about our style and our intensity because playing at home with that intensity with 25,000 plus people behind us will be easier.”

Karanka said there is nothing like being involved in competitive football again.

He said: “We have been working for five weeks and to be back involved in competitive games in the league is great.

“We are back playing for three points and are playing for something again – pre-season is nice to work and this one has been especially good.

“We’ve had the squad together to work and now is when good things can start.”
