Video: What lies beneath Ye Olde Salutation Inn.
Nottingham’s network of caves is not just home to much of the city’s history – unsurprisingly it is also the setting of chilling ghost stories.
We ventured into what is supposed to be one of the most haunted areas, the caves beneath Ye Olde Salutation Inn on Maid Marian Way.
Simon Unsworth, who runs the Nottingham Ghost Walk, often tells visitors the story about a young girl often seen in the building who died after being hit by a horse and carriage. He says two people once saw her even as he was delivering a tour in the cave.
Also in the building is the spirit of a highwayman said to have drowned in the well.
