Watch: Intricate 800-year-old carvings at Southwell Minster need £2.2 million of work

Medieval carvings at Southwell Minster will cost some £2.2 million to protect because of the intricate design and repairs needed to the landmark’s roof.

The stone carvings, known as The Leaves of Southwell, are in the Chapter House and date back to the late 13th Century.

They are internationally renowned but are at risk of deteriorating, although an initial National Lottery grant of more than £350,000 has already been awarded.

In total it is hoped £2.2m will come from the Heritage Lottery Fund to complete the work.
