Members of a men’s friendship and skills group have made a replica ‘boneshaker’ bicycle in honour of the Tour of Britain’s planned appearance in their village.
Collingham Men in Sheds recreated the 1860s bike – which was a predecessor to even the Penny-farthing made entirely of wood.
The boneshaker got its name from the notoriously uncomfortable ride it gave across 19th Century cobblestones.
The 2017 Tour’s fourth stage next Wednesday, September 6, is entirely in Notts between Mansfield and Newark, passing through Collingham.
Men in Sheds is a worldwide initiative providing mainly retired men with the chance to meet new friends and share wood working skills.
It is credited with helping to prevent loneliness and depression after issues including retirement, redundancy and bereavement.
