Watch: Moment staff member rugby tackles would-be robber to stop him taking cash

Video: Police posted CCTV footage of an attempted robbery on Middleton Boulevard

CCTV captured the moment a shop worker bravely rugby tackles a would-be robber to stop him stealing a cash box.

The store on Middleton Boulevard attacked on July 18 at 10pm, after a red Renault Megane had been seen waiting parked outside.

An hour later, at about 11pm, a man got out the back of the car and entered the shop.

He jumped over the counter and tried to take the cash box but was tackled by staff – they managed to get the cash off the offender and he made off empty handed. No-one was hurt.

The footage shows the staff member throwing himself at the robber as he runs at the exit.

The suspect is white, around 5’11” and was wearing a black jacket with a fur rimmed hood, black trousers with a black mask/balaclava.
