Watch: How Nottingham did in Boxing Day sales – including the man buying for Christmas 2018

Nottingham’s independent shops reported a mixed day in the traditional Boxing Day sales rush – as footfall fell nationally during what is traditionally one of the busiest periods for retailers.

Total shopper numbers on Boxing Day across England were 4.5 per cent down on last year, according to research group Springboard, which tracks visits to shopping centres and high streets.

In Nottingham, some independent stores said their trade had risen compared with others last year, whereas others said they had experienced a slight drop.

And shoppers told Notts TV they had been tempted on to the High Street for all manner of reasons – from returning unwanted presents to doing Christmas shopping for 2018.
