Watch: Nottingham’s Broadmarsh Car Park is knocked down

Demolition teams have started to knock down the central concrete structure of Nottingham’s hated Broadmarsh Car Park.

It marks the beginning of a vast redevelopment of the south side of Nottingham city centre, costing £250 million and including the redevelopment of the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre.

Work to remove other, smaller, parts of the building started in September, but on Friday (November 3) the main body of the building was being taken down.

It means the area’s landscape will soon lose one of its most notorious 1970s structures before a new car park and bus station is built next year.

A new re-vamped version of the Broadmarsh shopping centre will follow and there are also plans to build a new college on land next door.

Earlier this year, on approving the work, city council leader Jon Collins said: “I know people have been looking forward to this for a long time – and changes to Broadmarsh are now happening. We will improve this area and make the southern part of the city a place people can be proud of.”
