Watch: Notts boxer Nathan Kirk in training for comeback fight with eyes on national title for 2018

Video: Nathan Kirk speaks to Jake Meskell about preparations for his next fight.

Stapleford boxer Nathan Kirk is in training camp for his next fight at the Harvey Hadden Centre following his Midlands title fight loss.

Nathan ‘Captain’ Kirk fought Charlie Williams in October 2017 in the Holte Suite at Villa Park for the vacant Midlands Lightweight Title but lost via knockout in a dramatic contest.

Kirk is looking to get his career back up and running with a quick start in 2018, and with the hope of a regional or national title, he is ramping up his efforts as he prepares for his next fight.

He is on a card on March 31 at the Bilborough venue, in a bill headed by local Welterweight Ekow Essuman.

Kirk has also cut down the amount of hours he works to focus on boxing.

He said: “Not everything rides on this fight, but I do need to win it to straight get back on track.

“In 2018, I’m hoping I can take this next fight, take a TV fight before summer and get my name out there a bit more so that by the end of September, I’ll be looking to fight for the Midlands belt again or higher.”

Kirk has fought 12 times winning nine, with three by way of knockout, and says he learned a lot from the Villa Park title bid last year.

He said: “I had a lot going on last year – a lot of injuries but in training camp, I was the fittest I’d ever been.

“However because the camp was so long with the fight date changing a couple of times, I ended up burning out a bit towards the end of the camp.

“I didn’t perform badly but I just didn’t perform as well as I could have done.

“Things didn’t quite happen on the night but I took a lot from it and the experience itself was great.

“Now I’ve been at that level, I know I belong at that level and I know in the next fight, I will be a lot more confident now with experience of that camp.”
