The Premier League trophy has made its way to Nottinghamshire as it stopped off at a primary and nursery school in Arnold.

A parent of one of the pupils at Arnold Mill Primary & Nursery nominated the school to sign up for the Premier League Primary Stars scheme, designed to link learning and sport.

Upon registering, schools can win book boxes, free football kits or for the Premier League trophy to visit the school.

PE and sport co-ordinator at the school Tom Darby said: “You could tell be the atmosphere as the children came into assembly – there was lots of noise and excitement and everyone had big smiles on their faces.

“I’m an Aston Villa fan myself and I’ve always played football since an early age and have followed the Premier League from when it first began.

“It’s been amazing to stand next to the trophy and to find out information from the Premier League staff about the trophy so for me it’s been a very unique day.”

The Premier League together with Notts County Football in the Community arranged a day of football activities for all pupils.

Jez Weekes from the Premier League said: “We use the brand of the Premier League and all professional football clubs across England and Wales to engage all 19,000 primary schools across the UK.

“We want to provide teachers with resources and by linking schools with different clubs to mentor those teachers to try to develop them.

“Today, we’ve come to Arnold where we’ve done an assembly and we’ve brought the trophy here as well.

“I’m a big football fan and quite a happy one at the moment as I’m a Tottenham fan and over the last few years we’ve performed better than perhaps in previous years.”
