Watch: Puppet festival with bus-sized creations is coming to Nottingham

A puppet festival taking over Nottingham in March will feature creations the height of a double-decker bus.

The huge Iron Man, a recreation of the character developed by author Ted Hughes, will be one of the highlights of the  March 22-25 event.

Run by the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall in partnership with City Arts Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, the festival will appear at venues across the city.

The line-up will be packed full of live performances, including a puppet cabaret and a special puppet pop up village in Market Square.

A smaller version of the Iron Man, among other puppets, was on display at the Royal Centre on Wednesday to preview the festival.

The event will showcase puppet artists from across the UK and abroad, as well as celebrating local puppet makers.

Jamie Anderson, son of Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson, and the team behind Spitting Image are among those due to give talks.

The festival will happen during the run of the National Theatre’s celebrated production of War Horse at the newly refurbished Royal Concert Hall.

Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, the stage version of the drama features life-size puppets specially designed by Handspring Puppet Company, which is known for its artistic designs.
