Nottingham’s first self-service wine bar is getting ready to open its doors.
Another?, on Trinity Square, launches tomorrow (October 25) and Notts TV had a sneak peak inside with owner Sam Benjamin.
The venue is completely cashless, accepting only card and smartphone payment, and customers can pour themselves small samples or full measures of 32 wines dispensed by machines.
Each customer is handed a tab card on entry, which is used to work each machine and allows them to keep track of how much they are spending.
At the end of their visit, customers hand their cards to a member of staff, who supplies the bill.
“I don’t think people will lose that face-to-face interaction,” said Sam.
“I’ll always be here and my staff have a great knowledge of wine, so we’re there to help if you want help.
“Really how much interaction do you have with a barman anyway? Here I actually think we’ll have more interaction. We can talk to the customers, tell them a little bit more about the wines, and tell them what our favourites are, and have a discussion to find out theirs.
“If you want to come in and just drink – that’s fine – but if you want to learn and educate yourself there’s little snippets around the bar and tasting notes.”
Similar bars have opened in cities including Manchester and London, but Another? is the first of its type in Nottingham.
