Watch: Southwell yarn bombing covers town in woolly wonders

Southwell is covered with knitted creations this week in a yarn-bombing event raising money for good causes.

Organised by town councillor Sue Rodgers, the display involves covering bollards, benches and fences with designs made by local people.

Also on show is a yarn-bombed mini and bicycle, an elephant sculpture and hundreds of CDs with wool covers created by school children.

“It started as a very small project just to raise a bit of funding grew into a massive community project,” said Cllr Rogers.

“It’s involved nearly everyone in the town and it’s certainly brightened it up.”

Funds raised will go towards the Young Archaeologists’ Club and the Alzheimer’s Society – causes both close to Cllr Rogers’s heart.

People from across the town have made designs.

Her father died in 2014 after she had nursed his Alzheimers for several years, and Cllr Rogers ran the local archaeologists’ club for 16 years.

A parade is being held in the town on Saturday (September 20) and the displays will be on show for three weeks.
