A new £9.1 million ‘media hub’ building for creative industry students has reached a key construction milestone as it prepares to open in time for the new academic year.

The towering project on Lower Parliament Street will be used by Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies to deliver more courses at both college-level and for degrees.

It reached the ‘topping out’ stage on Friday – when the highest point of the build is reached and celebrated with a ceremony.

It will become a flagship part of Nottingham Trent University’s new ‘Creative Quarter Campus’ and aims to help make the city into a national leader for training and education in modern, digital and creative sectors such as games design, film, television production, music and live events.

It is the first major joint project between the university and Confetti. The university partnered with the institute and bought a controlling stake in 2015.

Built by Stepnell, the hub is expected to be complete in the summer in time for the start of the new academic year in September.

Demolition work ahead of the construction unearthed some key archaeological findings including medieval artefacts, caves and a 700-year old well that have helped rewrite the history of medieval Nottingham.

The findings and cave entrance were documented and preserved before the land was filled in ready for work on the building to start.
