The first ever Punjabi pool tournament to take place in the UK happened on Sunday (August 27) in Sneinton.

Spot On snooker club hosted the all day event in which people from all over the country came to play in.

And organiser Gizmo Singh was one of the organisers who put the event on to bring the ‘community together’.

“A couple of months ago, we decided to put an event on for just Punjabis to come down and play pool as a one off event and just to get the community together.

“We then put a tournament together for us to come and play pool.

“The first ever Punjabi pool city is here in our home city of Nottingham and we are trying to put the city on the map.

“People from Southampton have come up along with people from Telford, Birmingham, Bristol, Peterborough and Manchester.”

Organiser Michael Singh said: “We just wanted to get all the community together and have a game of pool.

“There’s not been anything like this before.”

Player Ronnie Singh said: “I’ve come to support the cause – one of my good friends has organised this tournament and has done a fantastic job.

“I wanted to come along because there hasn’t really been anything like this before in the time I’ve been playing pool.

“It’s good to soak up the atmosphere and get together with friends and family and make a day of it.

“It’s a great spectacle and I’m sure moving forward there’s going to be even more events.”
