‘We were perfect’: Nottingham’s Robin Hood speaks about losing Maid Marian wife to cancer

Nottingham’s official Robin Hood has paid tribute to his Maid Marian wife who lost her battle with breast cancer last week.

Tim Pollard, who has played the famous outlaw for more than two decades, said he was ‘overwhelmed’ by tributes from friends and fans after confirming she had died on Friday (June 16).

Sally Pollard, who was 39-years-old when she died surrounded by her family, had played Maid Marian by Tim’s side after the couple met through their interest in re-enactments.

She had been fighting breast cancer for two years.

Tim said: “We were just right for each other, it was perfect and although I’m utterly broken, I think we loved, and still love, and it’s a love some other people won’t get.

“I’m incredibly grateful for her.

“I’ll be fine and practical one minute but then, as happened the other day, I just find myself curled up in a foetal position on the sofa crying with people giving me a hug and I’m not quite sure how I got there.”

The couple married in Derbyshire in September last year and have a three-year-old daughter, Scarlett.

Tim said: “I know Sally would have said if they find something, go and get it checked out even if you think, or it turns out, to be nothing.

“She was a great woman, a great teacher, a great daughter, sister, a great wife and a great friend.

“She will be so, so missed.”
