Forecasters have issued a weather warning for Nottinghamshire as a band of rain moves across the UK.

The Met Office says Notts faces scattered thunderstorms and intense downpours on Wednesday (July 19).

A yellow warning has been issued for between 12.05am and 8pm on Wednesday, meaning there could be some impact to travel and local flooding.

“Although many places are likely to miss the worst of the rain, intense downpours associated with the thunderstorms may give over 30mm in an hour very locally and perhaps 50mm in two or three hours,” a Met Office forecaster said.

“As is usual in this type of situation there is considerable uncertainty in the areas that are most likely to be affected.”

Most of central England is affected by the warning on Wednesday, as the wet weather heads north from the south on Tuesday night.

Although the storms may ease in the middle of tomorrow, they could then return on Wednesday evening, the Met Office added.
