A big turnout is expected for the annual Young Creative Awards tonight when actress Vicky McClure will present accolades to Nottingham’s next generation of talent.

The theme for the 2016 awards is “Goals and Dreams”, with entrants are encouraged to submit pieces which display their aspirations for their future and Nottingham.

“We are proud to shine a light on their imagination

Nigel Cooke, chairman of the awards, said: “Every year I am impressed by the creativity, talent and professionalism of our young people here in Nottingham.

“We are proud to shine a light on their imagination, skill and dedication.”

Various awards are being given out in different categories, and attendees will be able to view a gallery of work by the potential winners before the show.

One entrant will also be crowned the Young Creative of the Year 2016.

Last year’s winner was creative dancer Jamal Sterret, who went viral online after being spotted dancing outside Rock City.

Nottingham-born Vicky McClure will be presenting the winning nominee with the award.

The ceremony was introduced in 2009 to encourage young people in Nottinghamshire to be creative and help them plan for future careers.

One of the 2016 nominees includes a dance performance about a couple torn apart in the cultural revolution of China and an emotional story of someone pushing themselves to overcome dyslexia.

The categories include Architecture and Design, Animation and Digital Media, Creative Writing, Dance, Fashion and Textiles, Film, Graphic Design, Music, Photography and Visual Arts.

The evening starts at 5pm at Notitngham Playhouse with entertainment from some of this year’s hopefuls.

Notts TV will also broadcast a short programme featuring some of the nominees and winners at a later date.
