The A17 in Nottinghamshire had to be closed when a lorry loaded with 27 tonnes of sugar beet caught fire.

The vehicle went up in smoke at around 1.30pm, close to the road’s junction with the A1 and A46, north of Coddington.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire crews to deal with the incident and the fire was quickly put out.

No-one is thought to have been seriously hurt but the lorry was left in the road with most of its haul spread across the road.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the area while the route is cleared.
