A 29-year-old man has been handed a prison sentence of seven years along with a deportation order for raping a woman at the Goose Fair.

Nasser Aldin Mohammed Ahmed, of Reigate Road, Basford, raped a woman at the Forest Recreation Ground in the evening of October 9 2016.

He appeared at Derby Crown Court on Friday (April 7) charged with rape.

Detective Inspector Ash Wilson said: “The victim in this case was subject to a horrible sexual attack that evening in October.

“She was visibly upset and distressed and her bravery that night and throughout the ordeal has been unwavering.

“We hope that the knowledge that Ahmed will serve seven-years in custody will bring some sort of closure at the end of this difficult time.

“We would like to remind people to come forward and report any kind of sexual assault to us and the result in this case shows that they will be listened to.

“Abuse like this will always be acted upon.”

Ahmed had attended Goose Fair earlier the night of October 9 2016 and drank an amount of vodka.

He then visited the Market Square, purchased food, attended the MOOG bar in Radford where he consumed alcohol and returned to Forest Recreation Ground.

Ahmed went onto have non-consensual sex with the woman, wrapping his arms around the woman’s throat, while she tried to escape.

She managed to struggle away from him to call for help; a passer-by then contacted the police.

The women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded for Ahmed to stop but was ignored.

He pleaded not guilty throughout and was arrested on October 11 2016.
