Nottingham is preparing its courts to host the first grass tournament of the tennis season with some of the world’s top players coming battling for glory.

The Nottingham Tennis Centre in Lenton is hosting the Aegon Open Nottingham, which runs from June 10-18, and features 10 of the world’s top 50 women’s players.

Brits on the bill include world number seven Johanna Konta for the women’s (WTA) event and world number 55 Dan Evans for the men’s (ATP).

Both are the highest ranked players in their respective tournaments.

George Donnelly, WTA tournament director, said: “It’s probably going to be one of the strongest events on the women’s front.

“It’s getting better year on year and that’s because the players talk to each other on the tour about the facility and experience they get from volunteers.

“Like this year, we’ve got Jo Konta who’s coming to play this year who has played here a number of years and know the centre well.

“She’s very popular with the crowd and she will be spearheading our women’s event.”
