Anthony Fisher: Neighbours left in shock as hunt for Carlton killer begins

Video: Neighbour Malcom Bradshaw says people in the area have been left in shock

Residents in a ‘quiet’ area of Carlton have described their shock after Anthony Fisher was stabbed to death in his own home.

The 58-year-old was found dead at his semi-detached house on Coningswath Road shortly after 3pm on Saturday.

Malcolm Bradshaw, of nearby Portland Road, said: “We were very shocked when we heard the news, it is not the sort of thing that happens around here.”

Police began searching the area around the property and are going door-to-door talking to neighbours.

A resident who wanted to be named only as Mrs Benson, who lives nearby, said: “I didn’t know the chap, and I’d never even seen him. I’ve lived here for years and it’s such a quiet area.”

An elderly woman, who did not want to be named said: “This is a residential area, I’m the neighbourhood watch for The Mount area, and it’s really very quiet.”

“I vaguely remember him from when I used to wait for the bus, and I’d see him pottering about in his garden.”

Another man, who lives across the road, said: “To his friends he was known as Yom. He was very quiet and kept himself to himself.”

Mr Fisher’s death was first classed as ‘unexplained’ by detectives but the investigation became a murder inquiry on Monday after a post mortem examination confirmed he had died after being stabbed.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 449 of January 9.
