Authors bring the art of imagination to Gedling Book Festival

The iconic Arnot Hill House is hosting the Gedling Book Festival for three days of story telling, fancy dress and creative workshops for the children of Nottinghamshire.

The three day book festival will take place Arnot Hill House, in Arnot Hill Park.

With the support of Gedling Borough Council, Haarts and Waterstones, the three day event organised by New Writers UK is free for anyone to get involved in.

The event kicked off with a General Fiction Day, visitors will be able to listen to talks from Authors Stephen Booth, Alison Moore, Eve Makis, John Baird and David Ebsworth.

There’s such a tremendous buzz about this event and the response from visitors is always so positive.

Councillor John Clarke, Leader of Gedling Borough Council said: “We’re huge supporters of ways to get children to read more and the work New Writers UK do with young people is fantastic. It promises to be a good weekend.”

Children are invited to dress up as their favourite literary character for the Festivals Children’s day, and New Writers UK will be launching their creative writing competition.

A Katy Perry tribute act will be performing over the event and writer Steve Bowkett will be holding creative writing workshops.

Festival organiser Julie Malone said: “It’s a fun event but also inspirational and a great pleasure to be involved in.”

On Sunday there will be talks from Alison Milbank on Tolkien, Dr Nick Thom on ancient history, and Frank Earp on his book the A-Z of Curious Nottinghamshire and Nottinghams 60’s rock and roller Vince Eager.
