Shoppers are getting themselves down to Nottingham city centre in their hundreds this weekend to get their hands on this year’s biggest deals at the annual shopping bonanza, Black Friday.
Originally an American shopping tradition, major online retailers in the UK, such as Amazon and Littlewoods, have brought the concept of Black Friday overseas and Nottingham shoppers are taking full advantage.
Despite the name implying the sales are confined to one day, most stores are treating their customers with four or five day long sales in the city.
Many shops in the Victoria Centre and Nottingham city centre have put on special offers with huge discounts for those looking to bag a bargain this weekend.
Often coined as the start of the Christmas shopping season, the Black Friday sales are regarded as some of the biggest and busiest along with the infamous Boxing Day sales.
Someone who is already taking advantage of the sales is 19-year-old Bernard Kirk, who bagged himself an iPad Air and a record player on Friday morning and isn’t stopping there.
He said:
The shops are all so busy, it’s absolutely rammed. I can see why though, the deals are amazing.
Bernard said: “I’ve got myself loads already, but some is for Christmas. I’ve got lots of iTunes vouchers and PlayStation games, as well as the iPad air.”
Popular high street stores such as Topshop and Urban Outfitters are offering up to 50% off on selected lines at their stores and are stretching the sale period over the entire weekend.
The Black Friday fun isn’t just on the high street, nationwide online retailers are joining in, with sites such as ASOS and Missguided offering 20% off and more to their shoppers.
Black Friday discounts and deals:
- Vodafone- Up to 50% off selected items.
- Topshop and Urban Outfitters- Up to 50% off selected items until Monday December 1.
- Holland and Barrett- 25% off selected lines and buy one get one free offers.
- Goldsmiths jewellers- 25% off watches and jewellery.
- Burton- Suits for under £50.
- ASOS- 20% off everything.
- Missguided- various offers across the website merchandise.
..and many more!
Student Shelby Walker, 20, has been enjoying the start of the Christmas shopping season as well.
She spoke to Notts TV News earlier about the sale extravaganza.
Fancy dress store, LuvyaBabes, is taking part in the Black Friday tradition for the second time after the success of the sales last year.
Senior sales assistant at the store, Kayleigh Shannon, said the store is offering 10% off everything.
She said:
It is going really well so far, it’s so busy in here and the whole of the Victoria Centre. We will definitely be taking part in the future.
With demand from online retailers already breaking records, shops are also forecasting huge sales and the biggest Black Friday yet.
