Video: Black Lives Matter protesters chanting at Theatre Royal
Black Lives Matter protesters chained themselves together across the tram tracks at Theatre Royal in Nottingham, causing travel disruption.
Friday morning’s demonstration comes as part of a series of protests taking place around the country, including separate protests at Heathrow Airport and Birmingham.
The protesters in Nottingham were heard chanting “we have nothing to lose but our chains” and “we must love and protect one another”.
Trams had to be cancelled during rush hour with traffic being delayed around the city.
In a statement at 9.21am this morning, Nottinghamshire Police said: “Officers are on the scene and are negotiating with a small number of protests.
“It is believed that the unplanned demonstration is in line with a national ‘Black Lives Matter’ protest.
“Our priority will remain the safety of everyone involved and to bring the demonstration to a peaceful conclusion.”
Due to protesters laying down on the track at Royal Centre, we are unable to run a service between Royal Centre and Market Square. 1/2

The protesters were all removed by around 11.10am and a number of arrests were made. Tram services then began to run as normal again.
