Blackburn Rovers V Forest Preview: Bendtner out for a month but Britt is back

Philippe Montanier has confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner is set to miss 4 to 6 weeks with an ankle injury but Britt Assombalonga will make the bench for Forest’s game away to Blackburn tomorrow night.

The Reds are looking to build upon a promising display against Birmingham City last Friday, a 3-1 win that was overshadowed by Bendtner’s injury which has left the striker with a heavily swollen ankle.

Montanier revealed his frustration that Bendtner’s injury has turned out to be “serious” but backed Britt Assombalonga to make an impact, albeit from the bench as he continues his comeback from injury.

The Frenchman was impressed by the Red’s more rounded performance against Birmingham with the hard work on the training field paying dividends.

He said: “I think we are starting to find the balance between attack and defence, the team is more solid and the international break has been a good opportunity for us to work on this.”

Blackburn are currently in the relegation places following a 0-0 draw at home to Ipswich but Montanier isn’t taking anything for granted.

He said: “Blackburn are a team with good organisation who go forward well especially with their wingers but they can also play direct. It will be a fight.”

The former Rennes manager also stressed the importance of the whole squad playing their part throughout the season: “It is important that the substitutes are ready as they can make the difference.

“Vellios has come in and done well after two tough months. It is good for his confidence and the team’s confidence.”
