A 14-year-boy has been injured after being hit by a tram in Nottingham city centre.

Emergency services were called to Weekday Cross in the Lace Market, just after 10am this morning (May 15).

The street was cordoned off as police and ambulance crews attended the scene, close to where the tram route passes the Cross Keys pub and All Bar One.

Six police cars, four fire engines and two ambulances were at the incident and tram services between Old Market Square and the Nottingham Station were suspended.

All bus services were also diverted and passengers were asked to use other stops. All NET services were also effected, with delays expected in all zones.

The incident lasted about an hour, and Weekday Cross was reopened at around 11.20am.

One woman who works nearby, who asked not to be named, said: “There was a boy, he looked quite young and his bottom half was underneath the tram, it wasn’t a nice sight.

“There was so many police, fire engines and ambulance, I knew it was serious.

“I was surprised how fast the ambulances came, they were here in like two minutes.”

Police have now confirmed that the 14-year-old boy has been taken to hospital, though his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Trevor Stocker, head of operations at NET said: “This morning on 15 May at around 10am, a collision took place between a tram and a pedestrian in the Weekday Cross area.

“The emergency services were quick to attend the scene, and the pedestrian is currently being treated for injuries sustained.

“We are currently working closely with the Nottinghamshire Police for what is now an ongoing investigation, and we thank the emergency services for their swift and prompt response.”
