Three 2015 Davis Cup winners will be in the line-up at this year’s Nottingham Open tennis tournament.

Kyle Edmund, James Ward and Dan Evans have all announced that they will take part in the Aegon Open, one of the few international tennis events besides Wimbledon that takes place on grass courts.

It will be held at Nottingham Tennis Centre, Lenton, from June 4-12 for the women’s tournament and June 18-25 for the men’s.

British number three and world number 82 Edmund, 21, has enjoyed a strong start to 2016 after winning another ATP Challenger Tour title, the RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to playing the Open again in Nottingham this year.

“It’s a great opportunity to get some tough grass court matches in before Wimbledon and so much fun being able to play in front of a home crowd.”

James Ward will be playing in the competition which propelled him to his best ever Wimbledon performance last year, reaching the third round and losing a five set thriller on Court One to Vasek Pospisil.

He said: “I always like playing in Nottingham, it has become a big part of my Wimbledon preparations.

“With three weeks of grass court events before The Championships, the added opportunity of coming up against some of the world’s best on grass in the East Midlands is even more enticing.”

Making his debut in Nottingham, 25 year-old Dan Evans trains at the centre and is looking forward to playing after a recent injury.

He said: “As I spend so much time training here I look forward to playing the men’s ATP event.

“Often players do particularly well at the place that they train so I am hopeful of some good results at the tournament.”

Tournament director Paul Hutchins said: “We will again have a very strong international contingent of highly ranked players.”
