Broadmarsh branch of BHS closes its doors for good

Video: Nottingham shoppers react to the closure of the branch

The BHS branch in the Broadmarsh Centre is closed its doors today as the historic retailer winds down.

British Home Stores filed for administration in April this year as its debts topped £1.3bn with the Broadmarsh branch one of 163 to close, putting 11,000 jobs at risk.

Nottingham shoppers have been speaking about their experiences with the shop and are sad to see it go.

It’s a shop that all ages can browse

One shopper said: “It’s a shop that all ages can browse around and it’s such a total shame that it’s gone.”

Another said: “I’ve grown up with it and it sort of sums up the state of the nation at the minute.”

Today the store was selling everything on the shop floor – down to the clothes mannequins.

Former BHS owner Sir Philip Green sold the company for £1 and has come under pressure for how he had handled the retail giant.

The company has a deficit of £571m to its pension fund, which could affect the amount of money workers get when they retire.
