The Fostering Network has launched a two week recruitment campaign for more carers as 600 children are in need of foster homes in Nottinghamshire.
Ministers across the UK as well as celebrities such as Jacqueline Wilson, are supporting the campaign called Foster Care Fortnight.
The Fostering Network is hoping to raise awareness of the importance of fostering by asking people to share pictures of themselves that say “I’m a foster carer” over social media. They are also organising a Foster Walk to raise money.
Capstone Foster Care have stated that there are currently 600 children in need of foster care across Nottinghamshire and more than 8,000 carers in the UK are needed to meet current demands.
Most children are taken into care because of abuse and neglect. But too many of them are not getting the right placements the first time.

Aleesha Newton, 21, lives with a foster family and is studying in Nottingham. She said: “It’s important to raise the awareness for the need for more foster carers. Many people take for granted how important it is for a child to grow up in a place that they feel safe and in a loving family environment.”

Nottingham City Council offers financial support and training for carers in Nottinghamshire.
Aleesha Newton said: “I think some people may worry that they would not be able to financially support a child, but there is lots of help given with funding and extra allowances.”
The Fostering Network is encouraging people to join the sponsored Foster Walk with family and friends.
