Carl Froch’s spring bout in doubt after injury

Nottingham boxer Carl Froch’s anticipated clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is now in doubt after he sustained an elbow injury in training.

Team Froch had been in talks with Chavez Jr for a springtime clash in Las Vegas, but it now looks as though the fight may have to be rescheduled for the summer.

In an official statement, he said: “I’m disappointed to have to let this opportunity go but at this stage in my career I have to make every fight count.

I will get some treatment and then we will look to make this fight or another big fight in the early summer.

Froch, nicknamed The Cobra, was last in action against George Groves in May 2014 at Wembley arena.

He retained both his WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion titles with an eighth-round knockout at the sold-out event.

Retirement?

But Froch, 37, has recently sparked rumours of retirement after posting a picture of a hanging pair of boxing gloves on social media. Froch tweet He is expected to make a further announcement regarding his titles next week. In October 2014, Carl Froch was made Honorary Freeman of the City of Nottingham in recognition of his achievements in boxing. He joined a host of illustrious names, such as Brian Clough and Torvill and Dean, who have  received the honour.
