Carlton sandwich bar catches charity box thief red handed on CCTV

A sandwich bar that had its charity box stolen has launched a JustGiving page to try and replace what was taken.

Munchies Sandwich Bar in Carlton had its Cancer Research charity box stolen on Wednesday, February 1 just after 1pm, in a moment caught on the shop’s CCTV.

The images have been shared thousands of times on Facebook as people try to identify the man responsible.

Now the takeaway has launched a JustGiving page so people can donate funds to replace what was stolen.

Amanda Turnbull, owner of the shop, said: “One gets served and appears to distract the staff member whilst the other one walks to the back of him and takes the blue container off the side, puts it under his jacket and walks out the shop.

“It’s sad enough that they’ve had to be in a position themselves that they need to steal about £25 or £30 but the big issue from me is what they’ve done to the people that donated in the first place.

“People that have put it in have their own reasons, whether that is they’ve been diagnosed with cancer themselves or know someone whose had it and had heartbreak through that or when they’ve been cleared of it and beaten cancer.

“That money is there to help people get less heartbreak and more joy.”

Amanda added: “We’ve had many comments back asking if we can donate and recoup the money so on the back of that I thought it would be a good idea to do a JustGiving page.

“If we get the £40 back then fantastic, if we get more its even better so I want to try and turn something bad into something good.”

Notts Police confirmed officers are investigating the theft and added no arrests have yet been made.

Anyone who can help identify the men is asked to contact Notts Police on 101.
