A Nottingham football club are encouraging fans to ‘cement their place in history’ after launching a ‘buy a brick’ campaign to help fund their new clubhouse.

Radford FC’s fundraising idea came after the club secured funding from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF) to develop their clubhouse and modernise the club’s facilities.

Each brick will cost fans £50 with double bricks available at £75.

Radford Chairman, Bob Thomas, says most of the current facilities at the On-Call Arena date back to the 80s.

“Most of the facilities were built in the back then and it was fit for purpose in those days but it is a bit tired now,” he said.

“The funding from the FSIF is for all the external work so we introduced the Buy a Brick campaign for two reasons; for the longevity and history of the club.

“But also to help refurbish the inside of the clubhouse with new furniture and fittings.”

Bricks purchased by fans will be on display inside the new clubhouse.

“The campaign was pretty slow to start with but it is now gaining momentum and we’ve had a lot of interest.

“We have at least 20 people who are going to buy a brick.”

Bob, who founded the club 53 years ago, says the new clubhouse will ‘mirror image’ the existing building that fans are so fond of.

He added: “The idea is to let the local community get involved with it and generally upgrade the club.

“It is certainly going to help sustain the club for another generation, which was the purpose of it.”

The Pheasants finished as runners-up in the East Midlands Counties League Premier Division during the 2015/16 campaign, narrowly missing out on promotion.

And after a successful end to this season – winning five of their last seven – Radford sit eighth in the table with one game left to play.
