Coffee sessions launched to combat loneliness in older people

A second coffee shop has signed up to a scheme aiming to help older Nottinghamshire people struggling with loneliness.

The No.29 Coffee shop in Radcliffe-on Trent is planning to open its doors to the county council scheme, aiming to tackle social isolation.

The shop on Station Street is the second Cafe in Rushcliffe to hold meetings with the help of Nottinghamshire County Council.

Tomorrow’s session on May 18 will be offering older customers coffee and cake or the lunchtime special on offer, so older people can meet new people.

comfortable and relaxing environment

Councillor Muriel Weisz said: “We are hoping more cafes from further afield will team up with us so there are more places for older people to meet new friends in a comfortable and relaxing environment.”

It is estimated that around 20,000 older people are affected by loneliness in Nottinghamshire.

Cheryl Marsh, manager of No.29, said: “We at No.29 are looking forward to assisting in this fantastic idea. I think everyone could benefit with company within a friendly, relaxed and supportive environment.”

No.29 is the second cafe to sign up to the project after a West Bridgford business joined the scheme.
