Police are investigating the possibility two robbers targeted a Nottingham jewellers less than 20 minutes after fleeing a similar raid empty-handed.
Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information after the raid at Cope, on Upper Parliament Street, on Tuesday.
Two men in motorcycle helmets entered the shop, a family business that has been in the city since 1845, at 1.48pm.
The pair stole various items before escaping together on a black motorbike. Nobody was harmed in the robbery and detectives are working with staff at the store to track down the suspects.
Police believe the incident could be related to the robbery of a ‘cash for gold’ stall in Long Eaton at around 1.30pm the same day – just 18 minutes before the Cope robbery.
Although they have not yet formally linked the two raids, the description of both sets of suspects is similar.
A grey and black Yamaha FZ8 motorbike with blue front forks and a blue cylinder head cover was also used in the Long Eaton robbery – the motorcycle used in Nottingham is described as a motorbike with distinctive blue forks.
One of the men in the Long Eaton raid had an altercation with the stall owner at around 1.30pm who was assaulted, before driving off empty-handed.
Police are urging any drivers with dashcam footage of a motorcycle in the area being ridden in a ‘reckless or aggressive manner’ to come forward.
Detective Sergeant James Hirst, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a distressing incident for those inside the shop and we are working at speed to identify the people responsible.
“To this end I encourage any witnesses who haven’t yet come forward to do so immediately.”
