Overflowing bins and piles of rubbish dumped on the streets of Sherwood have now been cleaned up by the council.

Katriona Skrimshire, owner of Roots natural food, raised the problem on Monday (January 6) when she discovered rubbish dumped close to her shop on Spondon Street.

Several other people said bins in the area had not been emptied, leaving streets feeling ‘neglected’.

But Nottingham City Council said they had cleared up the excess waste on Wednesday (January 8).

When asked about the council clearing the rubbish, Katriona said: “I’m just delighted that it happened quickly and that the problem got solved so quickly.”

A council spokesperson said: “Crews visited Spondon street and cleared everything up after it was reported.”

They added: “We encourage anyone who spots litter or fly-tipping to contact us so we can deal with it to help keep our neighbourhoods clean and tidy.

“We’re grateful to residents who report issues like this to us and we will always do our best to remove rubbish as quickly as possible.”
