Nottingham City Council and Notts TV are joining forces to create a brand new fitness programme to be aired on Notts TV from February 6 2017.
“Get Nottingham Active” will aim to get the citizens of Nottingham active in 2017.
From February 6 – May 7, short fitness videos will be shown on Notts TV just before 11am and 2pm Monday to Friday, that will provide hints, tips and inspirational ways to get fit and active in your own home.
Three local fitness champions will show how to stretch, tone and generally get moving in fun and engaging ways. All exercises are aimed at people that have never thought about getting active or perhaps face various barriers to accessing any form of physical activity.
“Get Nottingham Active” has been formed as part of the Fit in the Community project and supports a wider Nottingham City Council Sport and Leisure Strategy.
Nikki Mottishaw, Community Sport Manager of Nottingham City Council says “We are really excited about ‘Get Nottingham Active’ and it is a new venture for both NCC and Notts TV, we’ve never done anything like this before.
“We work hard to be able to bring sport and physical to everyone in Nottingham and we believe the programme will do just that.”
Viewers will be able to follow three local fitness champions, Charmaine Daley, Sebastian Sutherland and Vanessa Gretton, between Monday – Friday, just before 11am and 2pm.
Notts TV can be found on Freeview channel 7, Virgin 159, Sky 117 and on demand at nottstv.com.
Meet the activators
Charmaine Daley
Charm has been teaching Zumba all over Nottingham for 5 years. You may have seen her in This Girl Can Nottingham advert and documentary and shaking her shimmy and positively embracing her ‘Lumps and Bumps’ in her various classes across Nottingham.
Charm loves to work with many types of women who previously confess to little or no activity, come to her class, forget the world and its shizzle for an hour, wiggle, giggle, have the most amazing fun, walk out two inches taller in confidence, dripping in sweat, empowered and finding it hard to believe that exercise can be so much fun.
Vanessa Gretton-Roche
Vanessa has been helping people in Nottingham get out of pain and feel better in their bodies for over 10 years and she loves it. Vanessa is a fully trained Pilates Instructor with qualifications in post-natal fitness and corrective exercise. It gives her a sense of purpose being able to educate, guide and encourage people who might not ordinarily access any form of exercise.
Vanessa says: “It’s not about the latest fitness-fad or slimming down to a size six; it’s about helping the individual meet their specific goals; which may just be to sleep through the night without being woken by back pain.”
Sebastian Sutherland
Sebastian is a Mobile Fitness Coach and Nutrition Expert, based in Nottingham.
Sebastian tries to help people to achieve their goals all from the comfort of their own home. Sebastian has also been involved in various fitness work across the city, including leading some of the most popular fitness classes within local leisure centres.
