Cause & Effect at Detonate Festival Halloween 2016

Detonate will refund each ticket holder 50 per cent and have said that this is the ‘maximum amount we can compensate without going bankrupt.’

Detonate sent a link to those who bought tickets to fill out a form with their ticket details to be eligible for a refund.

This comes after Detonate Festival Halloween on Saturday October 29 was shut down three hours early because of fears about health and safety.

Staff and police closed off the main stage and moved out the crowd due to safety concerns before many of the headline acts could appear.

An online petition was then set up calling for Detonate to issues refunds with over 2,000 people signing it.

People who have signed up for the refund have taken to Twitter to voice their views.

Detonate’s email to ticket holders who applied for a refund in full

Hi,

Thank you for filling in our form, and again for your patience.

Sorry that it’s taken a while to get back to you.

We have been working flat out on it but it’s been a complicated process.

We have also had to work out at what level of compensation we can physically afford to give.

Because the event went ahead, all of the costs associated with it had to be paid still.

This includes artists that didn’t perform.

The costs of an event like this aren’t covered by the ticket price alone.

The money taken over the bar is what makes the event viable, and obviously closing early meant that was significantly less.

Looking at what other festivals/promoters in similar scenarios have done, generally people put their company into administration.

We have looked at that, but it would mean that ticket buyers are unlikely to receive any compensation.

Instead, we have looked at the maximum amount we can compensate people without going bankrupt.

We strongly believe that people deserve to be compensated at the highest level we can make work.

The event wasn’t anywhere near the standard which we’ve built our reputation on over the last 18 years, and we are deeply sorry that it turned out the way it did.

We can offer 50% of the face value of your ticket by way of compensation.

This is the amount paid prior to any 3rd party additions such as booking fee.

Legally, we can only financially compensate the person who bought the ticket from us.

This is the person whose card was used to pay for tickets.

The money will be sent back to the original purchaser’s card.

We are aware that some people have bought tickets from people they don’t know and so the compensation may not be passed on.

If this applies to you, please go here and let us know before Friday 18th November:
https://detonateuk.wufoo.com/forms/k1cik3n11834w39/?mc_cid=860e834bfb&mc_eid=[UNIQID]

We will process all the compensation then, and so it should hit the account of the original purchaser 3-5 days after that.

No action is required if you’re happy for the compensation to go to the original purchaser.

Apologies again,
Detonate
