Nottingham Forest have today released manager Dougie Freedman from his contract after a run of five defeats in six games including a 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.

The club announced his departure in a brief statement issued on Sunday.

It read: “Nottingham Forest have terminated manager Dougie Freedman’s contract with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Dougie for all of his efforts during his time at The City Ground.

“First-team coach Paul Williams will take over the management of the side until the end of the season.

“The club will be making no further comment at this time.”

FreedmanĀ is the sixth manager to depart the club since Fawaz Al-Hasawi took over ownership of the Reds in 2012, leading to the arrivals and departures of Steve Cotterill, Sean O’Driscoll, Alex McLeish, Billy Davies and Stuart Pearce.

Forest are currently under a transfer embargo.

They face high-flying Hull City on Tuesday and fierce local rivals Derby County next Saturday in what will be a busy week for the club.
