Drain grid collapses in the City centre

Notts TV video journalist Christian Hewgill was injured after a drain grid gave way from beneath his feet in the City centre.

The Notts TV journalist said: “I was walking to the gym at around 7.10am this morning, when out of nowhere I felt the floor go from beneath me. I realised the drain had collapsed and I was stuck in it!”

The drain is situated on Talbot Street and South Sherwood Street junction.

Christian said that it hurt a lot but luckily a passer-by was on hand to help him out and he only suffered a minor injury to his leg.

He said: “I’ve just had a nasty scrape and a bit of pain, but what concerns me, is what if it happened to a child, or an elderly person. It could have broken someone’s leg. I’m not sure how something like this happens, and want the council to look into it to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.”

Christian has been in contact with the City Council who have said they could not find a problem, but would send someone to inspect it again tomorrow.
