The family of Imogen Skirving have thanked well-wishers for their support after the Langar Hall owner’s tragic death in Spain.

Imogen was killed last Wednesday on the island of Menorca after she was hit by a car while out walking with her daughter on a family holiday.

The 78-year-old was well-known for being the owner of the stylish hotel and restaurant in the Vale of Belvoir.

Local newspaper Diario Menorca reports the driver of the car, a British woman living on the island, has been charged with reckless homicide.

She is expected to appear in court on Monday where a judge will decide how the case should proceed.

After the accident dozens of people paid tribute to Imogen, who picked up the ‘best out of town dining’ award for the Hall at the Nottingham Post Food and Drink Awards a week before her death.

The respected hotelier was walking with her daughter Louise at the time of the crash. She was also hurt but has since been discharged from hospital.

The hall is running as normal after the tragedy. A post on the Hall’s website read:

“On behalf of all the team at Langar Hall, it is with great sadness to announce our tragic loss of dear Imo.

“The family would like to thank everyone for the kind words and support that we have received.

“Imo was always the heart and soul of every party and she would never want such tragic circumstances to get in the way of any plans. Langar Hall will be open for business as usual.”

On Saturday, Imogen’s granddaughter, Lila Arora, wrote in a Facebook Post: “Thank you so much everyone for your kind messages and words.

“I haven’t had a chance to reply to all of them but i just want you all to know how overwhelmingly comforting it is to see just how many people in this world loved my grandmother.

“And an update on Louise Skirving, she’s doing better and will hopefully be home soon.”

Dozens of people added to last week’s tributes over the weekend.

Janet Carter wrote on Facebook: “Such a wonderful woman. A tragedy. She will be SO missed by all who knew her.

“We will always think of her when we visit her beloved Langar Hall – she is irreplaceable. Condolences and love to her family and staff and a speedy recovery for Louise.”

And Netty Wright said: “Such sad news. Bless you Imogen rest in peace. This truly magnificent lady will be sadly missed.”
