A driver left a couple with serious injuries after his dangerous driving down a bus lane lead to a head-on crash.
Sunil Singh had been driving a high-powered Audi on Nottingham Road, Radford, on the afternoon of March 8, 2023, when he veered into a bus lane in an effort to undertake a long line of traffic.
Well above the 30mph speed limit, he eventually ploughed into a car turning right into Chelmsford Road.
The victims’ Fiat was spun backwards violently due to the force of the impact, while Singh’s Audi careered directly into a shop, causing significant damage.
A couple in their fifties were inside the Fiat and sustained serious injuries, including a broken rib, upper arm fracture and a broken ankle.
While Singh’s final speed was never determined, CCTV, dashcam footage and witness statements indicated an illegal speed that was wholly inappropriate for the wet and snowy conditions of the time.
He was on bail for another driving offence committed in 2019 at the time of the crash, where he collided with another car near Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre.
When interviewed by police, Singh, now aged 30, prepared a statement in which he denied the dangerous driving and instead placed blame on his victims.

After waiting until April 2025, he pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He also pleaded guilty to careless driving for the 2019 collision as well as a charge of possessing a Class C drug after he was found in possession of nitrous oxide in April 2024.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday May 6, Singh, formerly of Beauvale Road, The Meadows, received a three-and-a-half year sentence and driving ban.
PC Emily Mitchell, of Notts Police, said: “This was an appalling display of driving that led almost inevitably to a very serious collision with another car.
“The defendant in this case seemed to be of the opinion that the rules of the road simply did not apply to him.
“So rather than wait in the line of traffic he took it upon himself to drive at speed down a bus lane without any consideration to other road users.
“Such was the force of the collision that followed, he can consider himself fortunate not to have killed somebody.
“Indeed, I shudder to think of the consequences had children been in the back of that car, or if was a biker or cyclist was turning right at that point instead.
“I am pleased he has now moved on from blaming others for what happened and sincerely hope this is the last time he finds himself in trouble for the manner of his driving.”
