The world’s first indoor drone racing arena is to open in Nottingham.

The UKDS Racing Arena will open on Saturday, March 11, in a unit next to Notts County’s Meadow Lane stadium.

UKDS Racing Ltd, an arm of UK Drone Store Ltd, has bought a 25,000 square-foot warehouse which will include a full-size, neon-lit iSeries Race Circuit, along with rooms for beginners and children to practice.

Managing director Sam Shaw said it will be the world’s first permanent arena and the company has been planning the development for six months.

“There are companies that do one-off events – but this is the world’s first permanent racing arena,” he said.

“We also have the UK Drone Store on-site selling camera drones, racing drones and all sorts.”

The company has stocked-up on drones for customers to fly, but Sam said people can bring their own.

He added: “We’ve had a big balcony built so people can watch the races from there.

“The drone racers wear googles to make you feel like you’re in the aircraft, giving a real adrenaline rush.”

There are different skill-settings on the drones, depending on ability, but advanced racers will control drones flying between 70 and 100 miles-per-hour.
