Excitement builds ahead of Nottinghamshire derby

A crowd of around 8,000 is expected at Meadow Lane tonight for the local derby between Notts County and Mansfield Town.

This is the first meeting between the two sides in the league since the 2007/08 season.

Both teams have made strong starts to their seasons. Notts County won 2-0 away at Stevenage thanks to goals from Curtis Thompson and Mawouna Amevor and Mansfield Town drew 1-1 at home to Carlisle with defender Malvind Benning getting on the score sheet.

Notts County will be without defender Mawouna Amevor after his straight red on the opening day of the season and will also be without Belgian full back Gill Swerts after he was sent off in the 2-1 cup win at Huddersfield Town.

Mansfield are expecting to take a large crowd with them for tonight’s game with over 2,000 tickets sold but may be without striker Matt Green who is a doubt for the game after picking up a knock in their 4-1 defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday.

The only other injury concern for The Stags is defender Lee Collins who has missed the first two games of the season.

Last night, The Magpies discovered they will travel to Aston Villa in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

The two sides will face each other again in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round, which will take place week beginning 31st August.
