Families left shocked after Lady Bay skate park vandalised with swastika

Anil Joseph lives near the vandalised skate park and often brings his daughter to play on the swings.

Police investigating vandalism at a Lady Bay skate park say a spray can has been found and taken away for forensic tests.

Families living nearby said they were left ‘appalled ‘after the skate park at The Hook in Holme Road, Lady Bay, was set on fire over the bank holiday weekend. A swastika was also spray-painted onto a skate ramp.

Panels of the ramp appear to have been ripped away and areas underneath the ramp have been set on fire.

A fire crew from London Road was called out at around 2.30am on Saturday (April 29) to put out the flames.

Paul Crooks, a West Bridgford resident, said: “I think it’s appalling.

“To set fire to that is just ridiculous, they must be bored out their brains with nothing better to do.

“It’s a nice place to come and walk the dog and it’s a shame they have to resort to this for amusement.”

Parts of the skate ramp have been set on fire, causing serious damage.

The Swastika had already been painted over by Tuesday morning.

Anil Joseph lives in Oak Tree Close, Lady Bay and uses the park regularly.

He said: “It is a sign of the times, this destruction and racism, that is what is being amplified right now.

“It’s a shame really because I come here all the time with my daughter.

“I didn’t even realise it had been set on fire, that is a danger to anyone who walks there. It is sad.”

Wooden fencing surrounding the skate ramps has been burnt.

A spokesman for Notts Police said: “Police are investigating and a spray can left at the scene has been taken away for forensics.”
