A fans’ group founder says he’s cautious of reports suggesting Notts County’s owner is making a fresh attempt to sell the club.
LGBT Pies Co-Founder, Steven Grocock spoke after Ray Trew was reported to have approached businessman Alan Hardy over a potential takeover.
Hardy is Chief Executive of Nottingham company Paragon Interiors Group, an office refurbishment and fit out firm.
He is also owner of the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club, and has previously made two offers for the oldest professional association football team in the world.
But a deal could not be reached with Hardy or other possible buyers from the United States and China.
However says he is wary of the timing of the current takeover talk.
“It has been on the cards since February this year but I was hoping with the current stability within the club this has maybe put it on the back burner,” he said.
“I think we have finally steadied the ship but feel if big changes are made, waves are ahead.
“But I do believe if we keep the current staff in both men’s teams we will be able to keep things afloat.”
Trew bought the club back in 2010 after County had been served two winding up petitions from HM Revenue and Customs.
Mr Grocock said: “Ray and Aileen Trew saved our club from the administrators and have been a big part of the club since.
“I personally would also like to thank the Trews for bringing the Notts ladies team to Nottingham and for giving us a superior platform to showcase Meadow Lane.”
Hardy was in attendance at Meadow Lane on Saturday to see Notts draw 1-1 with Crewe.
County are currently 12th in League Two, just one point outside the playoffs, with a tough away trip to high-flyers Portsmouth ahead on Saturday.
Mr Grocock added: “I believe with the team, management and back room staff we can definitely make it to the play-offs this season.
“The Mansfield game was a massive confidence knock but we managed a draw Saturday and believe we could bring back three points from Fratton Park this weekend.”
The club are yet to comment on the reports.
