Fawaz Al-Hasawi denies reports over financial takeover demands

Video: Interim chairman on the Supporters’ Trust on the potential new owners

Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi has denied a report about financial demands made in takeover negotiations for the club.

The Guardian published an article on Thursday detailing claims made by the current Forest chairman.

In a statement, Fawaz said: “I can confirm the information published was inaccurate and my solicitors have confirmed there has been no communication between them and the newspaper.

“The terms of any potential investment deal are, and will remain, confidential and the club will not be making any comment in relation to this issue.

“The matter has now been passed to my legal team, as such it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”

Nottingham Forest Supporters’ Trust have reacted to the article and statement by sending an open letter to the football club – saying it wanted to see a more detailed response.

The letter said: “It is disappointing that clarification has not been forthcoming despite a statement from Mr Al Hasawi.

“It remains our desire that such new ownership, whomever they may be, will put in place the structure and strategy that will safeguard the future of our club.

“We wholeheartedly welcome potential new owners and look forward to a positive future.”

Ben White, media and communications manager for the club, issued a statement alongside Mr Al-Hasawi, saying: “The club will be making no further comment regarding this matter.”
