Firefighter recruitment drive open for less than two days after 500 apply

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service closed its first open recruitment drive in six years less than two days after starting it because of the volume of applications.

The service opened the campaign on Monday morning (March 5) after an increasing number of retirements and leavers left it facing a potential shortfall.

Managers said the window would stay open until March 18 or until 500 applications were received, whichever was sooner.

The limit was reached and the window shut at 8.20pm on Tuesday evening (March 6).

A service spokesman said: “We’ve been enourmously pleased and overwhelmed with the response – and the level of interest in our wholetime firefighter roles – and can now report that within less than two days we have already exceeded the established limit of 500 applications.”
